"Time in Transit Switch"

What this feature did:

This feature stops, (temporarily), the time in transit activity;
Allowing you to move on with an order, without "timing out", when the UPS database is down.

Screen shot #1: From the "UPS/USPS/FED-X" main menu, choose "System Management", then "Set Up System", then "System Controls".

Instructions:

NOTE:
The field on the screen above must be set to "Y" for this feature to work.

While placing an order, if UPS' database is down you'll "time out" (your computer could "freeze up"/"stop moving", etc) because it's looking for information from UPS that is currently unavailable.

NOTE:
Although VICS generally says "NEVER CONTROL C", we are making an exception. If your system does freeze at this point in your order, control c to move on with the order.

The "Time in Transit Switch" feature turns OFF the communications from you to UPS while UPS is down, so that your computer can move on, and you can continue with the order you are placing. Of course, you will not be able to tell your customer at this point how many days it will take to receive their order - but the customer can track their package later on.

What we call a "CRON" job (a duty/task that runs "behind the scenes" on your computer system) will go back and flip the switch so that the communications between your system and UPS is open again. This "cron" job will run as often as you like - you tell us.
